How do I contact the Liverpool Hairdressing Academy?
You can email us using the contact form, join our Facebook page to send us a message, telephone us on 0845 504 0151 or write to us in the old fashioned way (address on the contact page).
Is there a lower or upper age limit for courses?
There is a lower age limit of 16, and no upper age limit.
What are the dates for the courses?
Most of the courses have available dates on the course details page, however, if the dates aren’t suitable for you or you’d like to discuss different options, please contact us.
Do I need to buy a hairdressing kit?
Some of the courses include a full student hairdressing kit provided by the Academy for you to use and take away with you. When booking for the more advanced hairdressing courses, we assume that you have your own tools, but will advise if extra tools will be necessary.
Do I need to bring models to work on?
Many of our local students prefer to bring a friend or family member to work on as they already know the hair type of that person, however, we can also provide models for you to work on as well as each other.
Is there an entrance exam?
Whilst there is no set entrance exam, you should be aware that throughout the NVQ/VRQ courses there are mandatory written exams. These are multiple choice exams that take no more than 15 minutes to complete. We help prepare you for each of these exams in advance.
How do I pay for my course?
You pay a non-refundable deposit of 15% of the total course fee once the booking is confirmed. The balance must be paid via bank transfer no later than 14 days before the date of your course commences.
How do I book a course?
To book a course, please use the contact form to express your interest, including the course name and date required. We will check availability for you and then get in touch to take your deposit and secure your place.
Can I visit the Liverpool Hairdressing Academy?
Yes. We welcome prospective students to come by and visit us. We do require notice though to ensure there is a tutor available to chat with you and to avoid interruption of classes.
Are the courses full or part time?
We offer both full and part time classes at the Academy.
Can I work in the industry after completing my course?
Yes. All of our courses result in either NVQ or VRQ certificates which are nationally and internationally recognised qualifications. You will also receive Liverpool Hairdressing Academy Graduation Certificates as well as your own portfolio of work completed throughout the course.
Can you help with accommodation?
Yes, if you contact us we can provide a list of suitable accommodation venues at affordable prices.
How many students are in a class?
Generally we prefer to keep our class sizes very small so that you have access to your tutor at all times. There are never more than 5 students per class, and on some courses it may be one on one learning.
Can you help me find work after I have finished the course?
Yes, we can. As well as receiving your NVQ/VRQ certificate which is required by all employers in the industry, we also provide you with a personal reference from the school to introduce you to new employers. We also provide a personal review for each student detailing where we think your strengths and paths going forward lie, and we can help steer you in the right direction. Whether you want to do mobile hairdressing in your home town, or sail the world on a cruise-ship styling the stars, we can help you to achieve your ambitions and we’re here for you throughout your new career.
Can I book a course from outside the UK?
Yes. International students are welcome to study at the Academy. You must be able to speak, read and write fluent English in order to complete the course.
Can I get funding to help with the costs of the course?
Sometimes funding is available for those who are long term unemployed. You would need to speak with your DWP advisor about this. Occasionally, we offer students who have studied previously with us a part-sponsorship on future courses if they have excelled in the lower level qualifications. We can also offer finance arrangements to spread the cost of the course.
Can you tailor-make a course to suit my needs?
Yes. If you are a qualified hairdresser, we can ‘mix and match’ courses to suit your needs while you are with us.
Will I be a fully qualified hairdresser after doing a course?
Yes. All of our NVQ/VRQ certified courses result in a nationally recognised, government body award. See here about the importance of having an NVQ in hairdressing.
What types of career opportunities are there for me after completing the course?
Qualified hairdressers have many career opportunities. After attending the Liverpool Hairdressing Academy, our students can go on to working within salons, TV and theatre, working for hair product manufacturers such as L’Oreal, training to be a trichologist / consultant, teaching, management, sales, cruise-ships and of course opening their own salon/s.
